There’s Nothing on Television

There’s Nothing on Television is a nod to those moments when it’s better to just turn off the television because of all the misery you see on the news. That’s not to say you should close your eyes to the social problems in the world.
There are plenty of social problems that you should not turn a blind eye to. Strangely enough, these are not highlighted on television. This may be due to prejudice, a lack of insight or a deliberate campaign by certain groups. Think of the deliberate ‘downplaying’ of certain topics or the misrepresentation of certain issues. Politics and religion play a significant role in this. This ensures that there is indeed nothing to see on television.
This does not only apply to television, but also to social media. What you see about certain topics depends on specific algorithms. Whether abuses are included in this is sometimes debatable. Do you learn more about the restriction of human rights, the perpetration of genocide, or how individuals are erased from society? Algorithms ensure that certain issues sometimes remain hidden. We don’t know for sure, because it’s the best-kept information.
Does this also apply to music? What do you get to see, and what don’t you get to see? What were the chances of you ending up here? Was it because of a link via, for example, BlueSky or Mastodon? In any case, it wasn’t Facebook or Instagram, because Neptune’s Barista isn’t on those platforms (More information).

The title of the song seems to be about what cannot be seen on television. Ultimately, it is about so much more.
